OOSPICE kickoff meeting held in London
(F. Stallinger, 07-02-2001)

The OOSPICE Project formally was kicked off on the 2nd of December 2000, with a two-day meeting in London.  OOSPICE is a research project funded by the Information Society Technologies Programme (IST) of the European Union’s Fifth RTD Framework Programme.  Working on the project are international experts in the fields of Sofware Process Improvement and Object oriented and Component Based Software Engineering.

All nine partners of the project were represented on the kick off meeting at the Hogarth Hotel on the 2nd and 3rd of December last year.

The project is sceduled to take two years and its focus is on modern software using Component-Based Development (CBD).  Based on the principles of empirical software engineering, OOSPICE is designed to combine the major concepts of component-based software development, object-oriented software development, software process assessment and software process improvement.

The main results of the project will be presented as a unified CBD process metamodel, a CBD assessment methology (delivering among other things capability profiles for component providers and an assessment software tool), a CBD methodology along with a CBD software tool, and the proposal of extensions to the emerging ISO/IEC 15504 process assessment standard.
