In the last years, the software engineering community has witnessed the emergence of
Component-Based Software Development (CBD). With the increasing popularity of
Web Services and Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA), CBD development approaches are expected to receive again increased attention and importance. On the other hand, the field of
Software Process Improvement (SPI), sharing very similar goals to CBD (and SOA) like shorter time-to-market, reduced costs and increased quality, has made considerable advances in the standardization of software process assessment and improvement (e.g. SPICE/ISO 15504, CMM), but generally lacks tailoring and customisation to CBD.
The EU-funded international research and development project OOSPICE (IST-1999-29073) was targeted at overcoming the shortcomings experienced when applying SPI approaches to CBD. The project is now approaching its closure.

The OOSPICE Project Information Workshop aims at disseminating the findings of the OOSPICE Project. It will provide an overview on the background and motivation for the project and the recent developments in both the fields of CBD and SPI. The focus of the workshop will be on introducing to the participants the CBD Best Practice Model developed within the project and both the Software Process Assessment Methodology for CBD as well as the CBD Development Methodology based on the Best Practice Model. The workshop will be rounded up by presentations of the Assessment Tool and the CBD Tool developed to support the methodologies.
This event is funded by the the EU. Participation at the workshop is free. The number of participants will be limited. Please register for the workshop by sending your name, affiliation, postal and email address and accomodation needs to registration@oospice.com. Hotel information will be made available to registered participants.
